Alphabet Upper case letters on the engines and lower case letters on the wagons. Spell any name by joining the wagons to the correct capital letter engine. Also ideal for teaching letter names and matching upper and lower case letters. Alliteration The “starting sounds” engines have lost their wagons. Can your children find all three picture wagons to match their engine’s starting sound? Rhyming The “rhyming” engines are waiting for three rhyming wagons to be coupled on. Can your children use the pictures and words on the wagons to make a rhyming string and complete the train? Spelling 12 engines with bold and bright pictures of phase 2, decodable, CVC words. Children sound out the word before using the letter wagons to spell the word and complete the train. Reading Short captions represent an important developmental bridge between reading individual words and reading whole books. Children match the decodable, phase 2 captions on the coupled wagons to the correct engine picture.
